Elevating Your Jewellery: A Reflection on Life's Milestones

Reclaiming My Wedding Rings: A Story of Motherhood, Change & Identity
So it finally happened — my wedding ring arrived today!
And honestly, what an epic journey it has been.
Let’s start at the beginning.
Five Years Without My Wedding Rings
I haven’t been able to wear my wedding ring (joined with my engagement ring) for five whole years.
Yes, really!
After giving birth to my eldest, Tayana, my hands simply… changed.
Pregnancy swelling, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, sleepless nights — my body was doing everything except returning to its original size.
And of course, as a breastfeeding mother with no time to think about herself, the ring never went back on.
By the time I reached a moment where I could have reclaimed a part of myself, I was joyfully expecting our second baby.
So once again, the ring stayed in its box.
When our son, Niyam, turned two, I finally accepted what felt like a milestone truth:
My body had changed.
My life had changed.
But I loved the woman I had become.
Motherhood had carved me into someone more confident, more grounded, and, truthfully, more beautiful — inside and out.
Reclaiming My Wedding Rings
So, I decided it was time.
I would have my rings resized.
My husband, Gwinyai, sent them off…
and then disaster struck.
He hadn’t updated the address on the original purchase order — an address we hadn’t lived at for seven years!
The rings were on their way to a completely different house.
You can imagine the panic.
He immediately drove 40 minutes to the property, only to find the new tenant wasn’t home.
He left notes, checked with the estate agents, and contacted the jeweller for tracking.
Thankfully — miraculously — the parcel never reached the wrong tenant.
It was “in limbo” long enough for us to redirect it.
Gwinyai collected the parcel himself (since it was under his name) and…
I finally have my rings back.
After five years.
After two beautiful children.
After a journey of loss, growth, identity and rediscovery.
Jewellery as a Celebration of You
Today reminded me of something so important — something that sits at the heart of Mayaani Jewellery:
A piece of jewellery is never just a piece of jewellery.
My wedding ring carries:
-
the memory of his proposal
-
our engagement celebrations
-
wedding preparations
-
our vows
-
our first home
-
our first pregnancy
-
our entire story
It represents every version of me I have been — and every version I’ve become.
Your jewellery holds your story too.
It carries the moments that shaped you, the seasons you’ve lived, your personality, your style, your essence.
It is a celebration of you.
This is why I always say:
Because your jewellery should always be more than just an afterthought.
Don’t settle for pieces that are “fine” or “it’ll do.”
Every piece you wear should be something you love, something you choose intentionally, something that honours who you are at this point in your life.
I can remember every piece of jewellery I’ve bought out of love — and every regret from pieces I bought out of convenience.
At Mayaani Jewellery, I am here to help you choose pieces that truly feel like you — pieces that celebrate your story, your journey, and your becoming.
Because every stage of your life deserves to be honoured.
And your jewellery can be part of how you choose to do that.
