The Story Behind Mayaani: Megha's Journey to Purposeful Jewellery Design

Megha is the heart and soul of Mayaani Jewellery — a name lovingly woven from her own and her children’s names, Tayana and Niyam. At Mayaani, she creates one-of-a-kind, Indian-inspired jewellery that blends timeless tradition with modern versatility. Each piece is sustainably handcrafted, lightweight, and designed to celebrate individuality.

Her journey began at just 16, when she discovered the joy of jewellery-making, creating heartfelt pieces for friends and family. But like many South Asians, Megha felt pressure to follow a conventional path, leading her to a degree and career in Speech and Language Therapy. While meaningful, the profession left her feeling creatively unfulfilled.

Everything changed during her sister’s wedding. Megha unearthed a creative spark — a distinct artistic edge — that reignited her lifelong passion. She realised jewellery was more than an accessory; it was her medium for storytelling and connection.

In 2021, she launched Mayaani Jewellery (originally Tayaani Jewellery), a brand rooted in her cultural identity and personal evolution. Her pieces honour the beauty of Indian heritage while embracing contemporary life — designed to be worn not just once, but again and again, for both special occasions and everyday moments.

More than adornments, her creations represent self-expression, sustainability, and a reconnection with heritage — especially for those navigating life in a Western world. Megha believes true luxury lies in artistry, not extravagance, and her work empowers others to wear their identity with pride.
