Beautiful Jewellery Without Compromise: Empowering Metal Allergy Sufferers with Bespoke Bead Designs

Jewellery Without Compromise: Clare’s Story & The Beauty of Metal-Free Design

Jewellery is a cherished form of self-expression, but for those with metal allergies, it can suddenly feel out of reach. When a metal allergy surfaces, it can make you feel like your days of wearing jewellery with a luxurious, high-end look are over.

But a metal allergy is not the end of your jewellery journey.

It can be the beginning of a more meaningful one — a journey into discovering the beauty of metal-free jewellery designed to be every bit as luxurious, refined and eye-catching as its metal-based counterparts… perhaps even more.

How Do I Know This? Thanks to Clare.

Clare was the winner of my 2023 giveaway, which featured a one-of-a-kind pair of earrings. When she found out she had won, she wrote to me explaining she had recently been diagnosed with a metal allergy and asked me to redraw the winner because she wouldn’t be able to wear the earrings.

I couldn’t let her miss out.

Imagine winning a luxury piece of jewellery only to decline it because of something completely out of your control.

I put myself in Clare’s shoes and wondered:

  • Where would she source beautiful metal-free jewellery?
  • Would she ever find pieces that reflected her style?
  • Would she be limited to the tiny selection of button or macramé pieces available on the market?

Although beautiful, those styles don’t always express a high-end, elegant aesthetic.

And yet… I had wanted to explore metal-free jewellery long before Clare reached out. Her message felt like a sign — the perfect moment to start.

Designing Clare’s Bespoke Metal-Free Bracelet

I wanted to create a luxurious piece that would reconnect Clare with her love for jewellery — something she could wear comfortably for any occasion, including everyday life.

So, I designed a bracelet using her favourite colours, crafted entirely from:

  • Glass seed beads
  • Crochet elements crafted by hand
  • A button-based clasp (ensuring zero metal touches her skin)

The clasp became the most meaningful part — familiar, unexpected, and completely metal-free.

When Clare received her bracelet, her joy was unmistakable. Knowing she wears it often — both casually and for special occasions — fills me with gratitude. Her review reminded me why I create: to help others rediscover their love of jewellery, even when their needs change.

Clare’s Review

“Receiving a piece of jewellery from Megha is a very special experience. Megha is a jewellery designer that puts the customer at the heart of each piece she makes. I cannot wear jewellery that contains metal, but this was no problem for Megha. She took note of my favourite colours and was able to handcraft me a beautiful bracelet made entirely from glass beads and cotton. Not only that, but she worked her magic to create a clasp that fastens with buttons (no metal used at all!). The bracelet is very comfortable to wear and it fits perfectly. The attention to detail in the design is superb. Hundreds of small beads are stitched and crocheted together to produce a sumptuous bracelet. This is already my favourite piece of jewellery! It looks fabulous when worn with a casual outfit and wonderful when worn for a special occasion. It feels bespoke, it looks bespoke and it is bespoke. How wonderful to have a piece of jewellery that was designed and made just for me. A piece of jewellery that is unique. Thank you Megha! I LOVE my bracelet.”

Jewellery Should Always Celebrate Who You Are

Jewellery should bring you comfort, beauty and joy — without compromise. If you’re navigating a similar journey with metal allergies, remember:

There are beautiful, luxurious, high-quality pieces waiting to be crafted just for you.

Because your jewellery should always be more than just an afterthought.

With love,
Megha
