Named for the Sanskrit word for water, Nira was four months in the making — and two years before that in the waiting. Her crochet foundations were begun two years ago and set aside, because the colour blue and her maker were not yet ready for each other. Blue, you see, has always been the colour of speaking your truth. Of authentic self-expression. Of the voice that was dimmed for too long before it finally, gradually, found its way back. As that voice returned — over years, not days — Nira became possible. And when she finally came together, she felt like the exhale that had been held for a very long time.
Her design flows like a river — narrow at points, wider at others, the beaded flora blooming along her length the way wildflowers bloom along a riverbank, fed by the water that sustains them. In every blue shade of Japanese Miyuki glass seed beads, silver lined beads that catch the light like sunlight on water, solid brass beads that anchor her like riverbed stones, and rose gold plated brass flowers that bloom where the current slows — Nira is an entire landscape worn on the wrist.
